South Korean Steam Coal Imports Edge Higher in June

South Korean steam coal (including anthracite) imports inched up by 0.1 Mt year-on-year to 8.3 Mt in June, according to data gathered by IHS. Stronger imports of Australian and Colombian product offset a fall in arrivals from Indonesia.

However, weaker receipts each month in January-May weighed on 1h20 steam coal imports, which fell to 48.7 Mt from 55.1 Mt in the first six months of 2019.

Meanwhile, the country’s coking coal imports eased by 0.5 Mt on the year to 1.5 Mt in June, bringing 1h20 receipts to 10.6 Mt (-0.8 Mt).
