The 3.3 Mt year-on-year rise in Chinese iron ore imports in May to 87.0 Mt featured a rise in shipments from Australia (+2.5 Mt to 59.1 Mt) and India (+1.9 Mt to 4.0 Mt), according to the latest government data. Imports from Brazil fell on an annual basis for the fifth successive month (-0.9 Mt to 11.6 Mt), while shipments from South Africa dropped to an 11month low of 2.5 Mt.
