Indonesian Coal, Bauxite Exports Diverge in April

Overall Indonesian coal shipments fell to 31.6 Mt in April (including lignite), down by 6.9 Mt year-on-year to the lowest since June 2017, according to Bank Indonesia. January-April exports declined by 8.0 Mt from the same period in 2019 to 146.8 Mt.
Meanwhile, the country’s bauxite exports climbed by 0.9 Mt on the year to just over 2.0 Mt in April, the highest since shipments restarted in June 2017 after an export ban was rescinded. Loadings gained to slightly less than 7 Mt in the first four months of 2020 from 4.9 Mt in the same months a year earlier.
