Port Hedland Iron Ore Exports Surge in May
Port Hedland exported 47.8 Mt of iron ore in May, up by 1.3 Mt year-on-year to the second highest level on record after June 2019 (48.9 Mt), according to port authority data. Shipments to China grew to a new peak of 43.2 Mt last month (+5.4 Mt) from a previous high of just over 42.0 Mt in June 2019.
Meanwhile, iron ore exports to South Korea and Japan dropped by 1.9 Mt and 1.4 Mt on the year to 2.3 Mt and 1.0 Mt, respectively.
