South Korean Coal Imports Drop in May

South Korean steam coal (including anthracite) imports fell for a fifth consecutive month in May, declining by 0.9 Mt year-on-year to 8.3 Mt, data gathered by IHS show.

Steam coal imports from Australia slipped by 0.2 Mt on the year to 3.4 Mt last month, while receipts from Indonesia inched down to 1.8 Mt (-0.1 Mt). Imports of Colombian product declined to 0.5 Mt from a high of 0.9 Mt in April and 0.7 Mt in May 2019.

Meanwhile, coking coal imports fell by 0.7 Mt year-on-year to 1.5 Mt in May, an eight-month low.
