Vietnamese Coal Imports Climb Higher in May

According to preliminary customs data, Vietnamese imports of all types of coal soared to a record 7.5 Mt in May from a previous peak of 6.2 Mt in April. By contrast receipts stood at 3.7 Mt in May 2019.
Imports of Australian coal nearly doubled year-on-year to 2.5 Mt last month, while those from Indonesia increased to 2.0 Mt (+0.7 Mt). Meanwhile, receipts of Russian product edged up to 1.0 Mt (+0.3 Mt).
Receipts from unspecified origins, a significant proportion of which is likely South African coal, climbed to just under 2.0 Mt from 0.3 Mt in May 2019.
