Indonesian Bauxite Exports Extend Rise

From a peak of 1.8 Mt in December (the highest month since shipments restarted in June 2017), Indonesian bauxite exports slipped to a three-month low of 1.6 Mt in January, although still up by 0.3 Mt year-on-year, according to Bank Indonesia.

Meanwhile, no nickel ore was shipped in January due to an export ban from the start of 2020. Nickel ore exports peaked at 5.9 Mt in October 2019, after the government announced the ban in September 2019, and rose by 1.4 Mt year-on-year to 3.0 Mt in December 2019.
