Japanese Coal Imports Decline in February

Total Japanese imports of coking and steam coal fell by 0.8 Mt year-on-year to 13.6 Mt in February, the lowest since April 2016, according to data gathered by IHS.
The country’s coking coal imports decreased by 0.3 Mt on the year to 2.7 Mt last month, while steam coal receipts dropped to just under 11.0 Mt (-0.5 Mt).
Coking and steam coal imports from Australia, Japan’s largest supplier, eased to 1.6 Mt (-0.3 Mt year-on-year) and 6.8 Mt (-0.2 Mt), respectively.
