Colombian Coal Exports Slow in April

Colombian steam coal shipments fell by 0.4 Mt year-on-year to a 14-month low of 5.4 Mt in April, data collected by IHS show. Exports dropped from 6.1 Mt in March.
The overall decline was softened by stronger loadings for Asia, which increased for a fourth month in a row (+0.7 Mt on the year to 1.6 Mt in April). Shipments to South Korea gained by 0.7 Mt on the year to 1.1 Mt last month (the highest since at least January 2000). However, total exports to Asia dropped from a record 2.4 Mt in March.
Meanwhile, exports to European and Mediterranean countries fell by 0.7 Mt year-on-year to 1.7 Mt in April (the lowest since May 2010), while shipments to the Americas were down by 0.5 Mt to 2.1 Mt.
