US Coal Exports Drop in March

US coking coal exports (excluding shipments to Canada) fell by 1.1 Mt year-on-year to just under 3.9 Mt in March, according to data from the National Mining Association. Shipments in the 1q20 dropped to 10.5 Mt from 12.5 Mt in the same period of 2019.
The country’s steam coal exports (excluding Canada) declined to 2.3 Mt in March (-1.0 Mt on the year). January-March shipments tumbled to 7.4 Mt (-2.7 Mt year-on-year), the weakest 1q since 2016.
