US Coal Exports Drop in September

US coking coal exports (excluding those to Canada) declined 1.1 Mt year-on-year to 2.8 Mt in September, data from the National Mining Association show. Shipments in the 3q20 fell to 8.1 Mt from 10.9 Mt in the same months of 2019 but edged higher from the 2q20 (+0.8 Mt).
The country’s steam coal shipments fell nearly 1 Mt to 1.5 Mt in September. This weighed on 3q20 loadings, which dropped to 4.4 Mt (-3.0 Mt on the year and -0.8 Mt from April-June).
