Canadian Coking and Steam Coal Exports Diverge

Canadian coking coal exports (excluding those to the US) extended annual falls for a fourth month in a row, declining by 0.6 Mt to just shy of 2.0 Mt in August, data gathered by IHS reveal. Shipments in the first eight months of 2020 were down 0.4 Mt to 21.5 Mt.
Meanwhile, the country’s steam coal exports rose in August to 0.5 Mt (+0.2 Mt) and climbed to 2.7 Mt (+2.0 Mt) in January-August, the highest for this period since 2011.
