The Chinese hot-rolled band (HRB) price gained $7/t in the two weeks to 12 October to $486/t, just $2/t shy of its year-to-date high in mid-September, according to the latest SteelBenchmarker from World Steel Dynamics.

The US HRB price jumped $57/t in the two weeks and $123/t from mid-July to $679/t, the highest level so far in 2020 and marking the first annual rise since January 2019 (based on twice monthly assessments).

Meanwhile, the Western European HRB price rose to $584/t (+$6/t).
