South African Iron Ore and Coal Exports in September

South African iron ore exports grew to 6.3 Mt in September (including overland shipments), the second highest level of 2020, preliminary customs data show. However, shipments in the first nine months of 2020 fell 1.6 Mt to 48.1 Mt.

The country’s steam coal exports edged up to 6.8 Mt last month (+0.3 Mt on the year). Shipments to India climbed to 3.7 Mt from 2.6 Mt in the same month of 2019. Despite the recent uptick, total loadings in the first nine months declined 2.5 Mt to 54.8 Mt.
