South Korean Coal Imports Decline in 3q

South Korean steam coal imports (including anthracite) eased to 9.9 Mt in September, down 0.2 Mt year-on-year, data collected by IHS show. Receipts in the 3q20 dropped 3.5 Mt to 28.5 Mt, although this was above the 25.1 Mt imported in 2q20. Imports tumbled 10.0 Mt to 77.2 Mt in the first nine months of 2020, the lowest in a decade.
Meanwhile, the country’s coking coal imports fell 0.9 Mt to 4.6 Mt in July-September, bringing year-to-date arrivals also to the weakest level in ten years (-1.6 Mt to 15.2 Mt).
