Chinese imports of bauxite rose 1.7 Mt year-on-year to 10.3 Mt in August, although softening from the record 11.0 Mt received in July, customs data show. Receipts of bauxite from Guinea gained to just shy of 5.0 Mt in August from 3.6 Mt in the same month of 2019, while those from Australia inched up 0.2 Mt to 3.4 Mt. Meanwhile, the country’s nickel ore imports continued to decline, falling nearly 2.0 Mt on the year to 3.7 Mt.
