China will remove export tax rebates for 146 steel products, and waive temporary import tariffs on some iron and steel products from 1 May, according to statements from the country’s Ministry of Finance reported by industry sources.
This news was expected and follows a sharp uptick in the country’s steel exports, which jumped to a four-year high of 7.5 Mt in March, and high domestic steel prices.
Export tariffs for some ferroalloys and high purity pig iron will also be raised.
