Japan exported 3.2 Mt of steel in March, down from 3.5 Mt in the same month last year, data from the Japan Iron and Steel Federation showed.

China continued to be the main destination for Japanese steel, taking just under 0.5 Mt, followed by South Korea (0.4 Mt) and Taiwan (0.2 Mt), with 2.4 Mt in total going to countries in Asia.

In the 1q, total exports came in at 8.3 Mt versus 9.3 Mt in the January to March period last year.
