Ukraine Closes Down Steel Scrap Exports
Minor Bulks, Steel
Ukraine has effectively blocked the export of steel scrap by imposing a prohibitively high export duty on shipments, SteelOrbis reports. On 2 December the export duty for steel scrap was lifted from €58/t to €180/t. Turkey was previously the main destination for seaborne shipments. This follows an announcement by Russian authorities that the export tax on ferrous scrap will rise by €30/t to €100/t from 1 January 2022. Turkey imported a combined 2.1 Mt of steel scrap from Russia and Ukraine in January-September 2021.
