Queensland Coal Shipments in January

Combined coal throughput at the Queensland ports of Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay, Gladstone and Hay Point retreated to 16.3 Mt in January, down from 18.7 Mt in December and some 2.2 Mt lower year-on-year, port authority data show. This was the weakest start to a year for shipments since 2014.

At 13.9 Mt, January coal exports from the Port of Newcastle were down from 14.9 Mt in December but in line with the year-ago level, according to the port authority.
