Combined Australian coking and steam coal exports (including anthracite) in May reached a four-month high of 31.1 Mt, official customs data show.

Volumes were up from 29.6 Mt in the same month last year, with coking coal exports showing the largest annual gain, up 0.8 Mt to 14.4 Mt. Steam coal exports meanwhile rose 0.7 Mt year-on-year to 16.7 Mt.

Total coal exports in the January to May period stand at 147.7 Mt, down from 154.3 Mt a year earlier.
