Iron ore exports from Australia reached a five-month high in May of 79.8 Mt (wet basis), up 0.4 Mt year-on-year, official customs data show.

Shipments to China hit 61.3 Mt, also a five-month high but down 6.0 Mt year-on-year, with volumes rising for Japan and South Korea by 1.1 Mt and 0.5 Mt year-on-year to 5.4 Mt and 4.2 Mt, respectively.

Total Australian iron ore exports in the January-May period now stand at 368.4 Mt, up from 363.8 Mt a year earlier.
