China imported 89.4 Mt of iron ore in June, down from 101.7 Mt in the same month last year but broadly in line with the 89.8 Mt imported in May, official customs data showed. Total iron ore imports in the 1h21 now stand at 561.4 Mt, up from 547.2 Mt a year earlier.
By contrast, Chinese imports of steam and coking coal (including lignite) reached 28.4 Mt in June, the highest level since December and up from 25.3 Mt in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, the country imported 10.7 Mt of soyabeans in June, the highest volume since the same month last year when imports reached 11.2 Mt. Total imports in the 1h21 now stand at 49.0 Mt, up from 45.0 Mt a year earlier.
China exported 6.5 Mt of steel in June, up from 3.7 Mt in the same month last year, as exports in the 1h21 reached the highest level for the period since 2017 at 37.4 Mt.
