Chinese Coking Coal Imports by Source

China continued to source significant volumes of coking coal from the US, Russia and Canada in June amid a prolonged absence of Australian coking coal from the country’s customs data, data from IHS showed.
Imports from Russia reached 1.2 Mt, the highest level since December and almost double the year ago level, with total 1h coking coal imports from Russia now standing at 4.4 Mt, up 1.5 Mt from the same period last year.
Imports from Canada into China reached 0.9 Mt, a three-month high and up from 0.4 Mt a year earlier.
Total 1h coking coal imports from Canada reached 4.0 Mt, the second-highest level on record with only imports in the same period of 2013 exceeding this.
Furthermore, imports from the US into China reached 0.9 Mt compared with 0.3 Mt a year earlier, bringing 1h imports from the US to 3.9 Mt, a record high for the period and up from just 0.7 Mt last year.
