Japan imported 10.2 Mt of iron ore in June, up from a Covid-depressed 6.2 Mt a year earlier, with Australia and Brazil continuing to fulfil most of the volume, official customs data showed.
Imports of Australian iron ore reached 6.4 Mt, up 2.6 Mt year-on-year, with imports from Brazil hitting 2.2 Mt, up 1.0 Mt.
Elsewhere, despite imports from Canada reaching a 12-month high of 0.7 Mt, this was still down 0.2 Mt on the year-ago level, while South African imports hit 0.2 Mt from close to zero a year earlier.
