The 1.4 Mt year-on-year increase in Japanese steam coal imports (including anthracite) to 12.5 Mt in September featured a rise in shipments from Australia (+1.9 Mt to 8.2 Mt), while imports from Colombia doubled on the year-ago level to reach 0.2 Mt, according to IHS. Meanwhile, shipments from Indonesia retreated by 0.4 Mt to 1.6 Mt.

Japanese coking coal imports from Australia rose by 1.0 Mt to 2.6 Mt in September, while shipments from the US edged up to reach 0.4 Mt. Total Japanese coking coal imports climbed 1.1 Mt year-on-year to 3.7 Mt in September.
