Japanese iron ore imports surged 65.1% from Covid-depressed levels in the same month last year to reach 10.2 Mt in June, provisional data reveal. At 29.7 Mt, total imports in the 2q21 were at the highest quarterly level since the 4q19.

At 13.1 Mt, Japanese coal imports were a 13-month low in June. Shipments in the 2q21 totalled 40.0 Mt, the lowest quarter for imports since the 2q09.
