US Steel Imports Rise

The US imported 2.6 Mt of steel in June, the highest monthly volume since January 2020 and up from 2.3 Mt in May and 1.3 Mt in the same month last year, according to data from the US Census Bureau.

In terms of seaborne origins, the EU was the largest supplier with volumes coming in at 0.4 Mt, double the year ago level.

This brings total US steel imports for the 1h21 to 13.3 Mt, up from 11.2 Mt in the same period last year, but down from the pre-Covid 1h19 when imports reached 14.2 Mt.
