Australian exports of steam coal to India hit a record monthly high of 2.5 Mt in April, as China continued to be absent from export data for a fourth consecutive month, data from IHS showed.

Steam coal shipments to India in the month compared with 0.2 Mt in the same month last year.

Japan remained the largest importer of Australian steam coal, with volumes reaching 5.4 Mt versus 5.1 Mt a year earlier.

For coking coal, India was also the largest destination with exports reaching 4.9 Mt, more than double the 2.4 Mt exported a year earlier.
