China Bauxite and Nickel Ore Imports

China imported 9.1 Mt of bauxite and 3.7 Mt of nickel ore in May, according to official customs data.

For bauxite, Guinea remained the main source with volumes reaching 5.2 Mt, a two-month high and up 1.1 Mt year-on-year. Volumes from Australia and Indonesia fell by 0.9 Mt and 0.6 Mt respectively to land at 2.4 Mt and 1.2 Mt.

For nickel ore, imports from the Philippines hit a seven-month high of 3.5 Mt, up sharply from 1.3 Mt a year earlier.
