China continued to lift its imports of coking and steam coal (including lignite and anthracite) from Russia in May with shipments up by 0.7 Mt and 2.0 Mt year-on-year to a respective 1.1 Mt and 4.0 Mt, both six-month highs, data from IHS show. By contrast, no Australian coal was imported for a sixth consecutive month.

However, Indonesia remained the largest supplier of steam coal to China in May with volumes reaching 11.1 Mt, unchanged from a year earlier.

After Russia, Mongolia was the second largest supplier of coking coal to Chin in May with volumes coming in at 0.8 Mt versus 1.7 Mt last May. However, imports from the US more than doubled year-on-year to 0.7 Mt.
