Total industrial profits from major Chinese industrial enterprises reached 3,425 billion yuan ($5.3 billion) in January-May, up by 83.4% year-on-year, data from the country’s National Bureau of Statistics show.

Profits were also up by 48.0% over the same five-month period in 2019, showcasing that the rise in profits went beyond a mere recovery from last year’s Covid-depressed levels.
