Of the 89.9 Mt of iron ore China imported in May, 3.6 Mt was sourced from India, down from a near ten-year high of 6.3 Mt in April and 4.0 Mt a year earlier, official customs data showed.

Meanwhile, imports from Australia fell by 1.3 Mt year-on-year to 57.8 Mt and shipments from Brazil dropped to a 12-month low of 15.0 Mt, although a weak May 2020 meant they were still up by 3.3 Mt annually. However, there was an eight-month high for imports of Ukrainian iron ore at 2.1 Mt.
