Global Steel Output in May

Global crude steel production climbed 16.5% year-on-year in May to reach a new monthly high of 174.4 Mt, according to the World Steel Association.

As previously reported, there was a 6.6% annual rise in Chinese steel production to a new record of 99.5 M, while production in the rest of the world increased by 33.0% to hit 74.9 Mt following Covid-19 related weakness in the same month last year.

World steel production in January-May totalled 837.5 Mt, up by 14.5% on the same period in 2020.
