Japan imported 9.0 Mt of iron ore in May, up from 6.8 Mt a year earlier, with Australia and Brazil continuing to dominate supply, official customs data showed.

Imports of Australian iron ore reached 5.5 Mt, up 1.6 Mt year-on-year with imports from Brazil hitting 2.7 Mt, up 0.8 Mt.

Elsewhere, imports from Canada surged to 0.5 Mt from less than 0.1 Mt a year earlier.
