Volumes of coal leaving key Queensland ports of Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay, Gladstone and Hay Point in May hit a combined 17.4 Mt, a five-month high and up 0.1 Mt year-on-year, port authority data showed.

However, at 81.9 Mt, January-May throughput was still down 3.3 Mt on the same period last year.
