Vietnamese imports of all coal types reached 3.8 Mt in May, down sharply from a record 7.2 Mt in the same month last year, preliminary customs data show.

Australia was the largest supplier of coal to Vietnam in May with volumes reaching 1.6 Mt, followed by Indonesia at 1.4 Mt. However, shipments were down by a respective 0.9 Mt and 0.6 Mt year-on-year.

This brought total January to May coal imports from all sources to 16.4 Mt, down from 24.9 Mt in the same period a year earlier.
