China April Steam Coal Imports by Source

In April, China imported 18.3 Mt of steam coal (including lignite) versus 24.7 Mt a year earlier, data from IHS show. Indonesia was the largest supplier in the month with volumes coming in at 11.5 Mt versus 14.7 Mt a year earlier.
Imports of Russian coal hit 3.7 Mt, up from 2.7 Mt a year earlier with the country the second largest supplier of coal to China in the month.
Furthermore, imports of South African coal exceeded 1.0 Mt for the first time since January 2014, hitting 1.1 Mt following the reappearance of South African steam coal in China’s import data in February for the first time since July 2014.
China also imported 1.2 Mt from the Philippines, a four-month high and up from 0.3 Mt a year earlier.
