Combined US coking and steam coal exports in March reached a 21-month high of 6.8 Mt (excluding cargoes to Canada), up by 0.6 Mt year-on-year, data from the US National Mining Association show.

The total figure for the month was comprised mainly of steam coal exports, which jumped by 1.4 Mt to 3.7 Mt, the highest level since January 2019.

Coking coal exports in the month hit 3.1 Mt, down from 3.9 Mt in the same month last year.

In the 1q21, total coal exports hit 18.2 Mt, up 0.3 Mt year-on-year.
