The US imported 2.4 Mt in April, down slightly year-on-year but still the highest monthly volume since July 2020, official data showed.
In terms of origins, the sharpest annual fall was for imports of Brazilian steel, with the total for April coming in at 0.6 Mt versus 1.1 Mt a year earlier.
However, shipments from most other key origins were steady or marginally stronger, with imports of South Korean steel a 23-month high.
