Australian Coal Exports in September

Australian coal exports climbed 1.4 Mt year-on-year to reach 31.2 Mt in September, data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveal.

Exports of steam coal jumped 2.6 Mt annually to 17.6 Mt. At 55.0 Mt, outbound shipments in the 3q21 were at their highest quarterly level since the 4q19. By contrast, coking coal exports retreated 1.2 Mt in September to a seven-month low of 13.6 Mt. Exports in the 3q21 were 0.9 Mt below the corresponding quarter last year.
