Global Crude Steel Production in October

Crude steel production in the world excluding China climbed 6.5% year-on-year in October to reach 74.1 Mt, marking eight consecutive months of annual growth, according to data from the World Steel Association.

US steel production jumped 20.5% to 7.5 Mt, while output in the EU and India climbed 6.4% and 2.4% to 13.4 Mt and 9.8 Mt, respectively. By contrast, South Korean steel production edged down 1.0% to 5.8 Mt.

In sharp contrast, a previously reported 23.3% drop in Chinese steel production to 71.6 Mt means that the country accounted for less than half of global output in October, the first month it has done so since March 2018.
