South Korea exported 2.1 Mt of steel in August, the lowest level since May 2020 and down from 2.4 Mt last August, according to the Korean Iron and Steel Association. In January-August exports stood at 18.2 Mt versus 19.0 Mt a year earlier and 20.3 Mt in the same period in 2019.

Meanwhile, the country imported 1.3 Mt of steel in August, up from 0.8 Mt in the same month last year but down from 1.7 Mt in July. Total imports in January-August stand at 10.0 Mt, up from 8.8 Mt a year earlier but down from 11.6 Mt in the same period in 2019.
