Chinese Bauxite and Nickel Ore Imports by Source

At 4.4 Mt, Chinese imports of bauxite from Guinea in August were broadly in line with July, but were down from 5.0 Mt in the same month a year earlier, official customs data show.

China imported a total of 8.7 Mt of bauxite in August and after Guinea volumes from Australia were the next largest at 2.8 Mt versus 3.3 Mt in July and 3.4 Mt in the same month last year.

For nickel ore, imports from the Philippines reached 5.4 Mt in August. This constituted most of China’s total nickel ore import volume for the month of 5.8 Mt.  Imports from the Philippines totalled 4.8 Mt in July and 3.4 Mt in the same month last year.
