The European Union imported 3.2 Mt of steel in July, a three-month high and up from 2.6 Mt a year ago, data from The European Steel Association (Eurofer) showed. This brought annual growth in shipments in January-July to 3.4 Mt, to 17.7 Mt. By contrast, steel exports fell to the lowest level since January 2009 in August at 1.3 Mt. This compares with 1.7 Mt in the same month last year.
India was the largest supplier of EU steel imports in August with 0.7 Mt, followed by Turkey on 0.6 Mt and Russia on 0.4 Mt. For export destinations, Turkey was the largest at 0.2 Mt.
