Hot rolled band (HRB) steel prices in the US continued to move higher and returned to growth in China in the three weeks to 13 September, according to the latest SteelBenchmarker from World Steel Dynamics.
The US HRB price was assessed at $2,078/t, up $9/t in the period from 23 August to 13 September to reach a new record high and was up from $595/t in the corresponding period of 2020.
In China, the domestic HRB price reached $768/t, up from $735/t previously following a month of declining price levels in August and compares with $488/t in the same period last year.
Meanwhile, the Western European price stood at $1,325/t versus $575/t a year ago and was virtually unchanged from three weeks ago.
