Steel
Global crude steel output in August fell by -1.4% year-on-year to 156.8 Mt, according to the World Steel Association. This fall was almost entirely attributable to another steep decline in output in China, which was down -13.2% year-on-year to 83.2 Mt.
By contrast, steel output in the US, Japan, and the EU all rose by more than 20% each year-on-year to land at 7.5 Mt, 7.9 Mt and 11.6 Mt respectively. Output in India rose 8.2% from last August to reach 9.9 Mt.
