US August Steel Imports

The US imported 2.0 Mt of steel in August, a six-month low but up from 1.2 Mt a year earlier, data from the US Census Bureau showed.

Brazil was the largest source of seaborne steel imports at a little under 0.3 Mt, but overland shipments from Canada and Mexico were stronger with combined volumes from the two countries registered at 0.9 Mt.

At 18.1 Mt, steel imports from all sources in January-August were 3.2 Mt higher than the same period in 2020.
