Grain Prices Rise
The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) May wheat contract peaked at $9.60 a bushel, a fourteen-year high, reflecting supply uncertainties from the Black Sea, according to Reuters. Increases were also seen in the corn market, with the equivalent contract close to an eight-month high.
CISA Crude Steel Production Decrease
Daily crude steel output at China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) member mills continues to fall, down 1.3% on the previous ten days to 1.9 Mt in the period 11-20 February and 16.8% lower year-on-year, according to the industry association.
US Steel Imports Increase
US steel imports totaled 2.8 Mt in January, an increase of 0.6 Mt compared to the same month last year, according to official data. Imports from the EU jumped 0.2 Mt year-on-year to 0.3 Mt however, shipments from Brazil almost halved to 0.4 Mt.
