Canadian exports of coking coal (excluding cargoes to the US) fell by 1.2 Mt to 25.5 Mt in 2021, the lowest total since 2009, according to IHS data. Canada saw a decrease in shipments to Japan (-1.1 Mt to 5.3 Mt), South Korea (-1.3 Mt to 4.5 Mt) and India (-1.7 Mt to 2.0 Mt). However, shipments to China increased by 4.0 Mt to 9.2 Mt, making it Canada’s largest export destination in 2021.
